        • Can China Form its Own Alliance? — Simone Gao with Keith Krach

#G7 adopted the U.S.-led proposal #BuildBackBetter World as an alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative. But can it compete with China’s investment? Despite the G7’s newly formed alliance against# China, China is still the hottest spot for foreign investment, can #Beijing form its own alliance to battle the western world? #KeithKrach was the under secretary of state responsible for economic diplomacy during the #Trump administration. The Blue Dot network his team drafted was adopted by the #Biden Administration and is now the Build Back Better World initiative. This Silicon Valley veteran has a good track record of defeating China’s economic aggression, particularly Huawei’s ambition to take over the global #5G communications. I discussed with him the strategies to deal with the China challenge, what works and what doesn’t.

              • China spy rumored to defect to US with virus info; Floods strike China’s Yangtze river

One of China’s top spies has reportedly defected to the U.S. Rumor has it he passed on important intel about the pandemic’s origin, and names of Chinese spies working in the U.S. A White House official presents China with ‘a stark choice’: allow a ‘real’ probe into the pandemic’s origin, or face isolation from the international community. Hong Kong’s pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily is facing a possible shut down. This weekend will either make or break the publication, as it prepares to print what might be its last issue. Floods strike China’s longest river. In one area, water rose a whopping 13 feet in just one day’s time. And a 7-story building in Southern China crumbles, with residents still inside. Authorities are now looking into what caused the sudden collapse.

                • How Multilateral Organizations Became Proxies of China’s Communist Party—Cleo Paskal

India’s second wave of COVID-19 has prompted growing questions and suspicions of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) involvement, following a deadly border clash last year. In this episode, we sit down with Cleo Paskal, an expert on the Chinese Communist Party and its Indo-Pacific strategy, to understand how the CCP systematically exploits the weaknesses of its adversaries. In the Chinese communist playbook, anything can be weaponized, from using apps like TikTok to subtly influence the minds of America’s youth to depriving people of life-saving treatment if they don’t toe the Communist Party line, Paskal says. Cleo Paskal is an associate fellow at Chatham House.

                  • South Chinese city hit by flooding, virus spread; China to keep border limits for another year

Beijing furthers its narratives in the West, with help from Western faces. A Chinese state-owned media is recruiting overseas internet personalities to do it. A Chinese city dubbed “the World’s factory” struggles to control the pandemic and flooding. A state of emergency announced on Tuesday. While schools, kindergartens, and nurseries are shuttered. The U.S. lifts its ban on TikTok and WeChat. The Trump-era rule had tried to block Americans from downloading the Chinese-owned apps, citing national security concerns. The first person charged under Hong Kong’s new national security law is going to trial. But the city’s Court of Appeal says no jury is required. The move breaks away from a nearly 200-year old precedent. And, another blow strikes Chinese telecom giant Huawei, this time in Europe. A Swedish court upholds a ban, blocking the company from selling 5G equipment there.

                    • How China violated the WTO and made free markets less free: Clyde Prestowitz | China in Focus

How did the Chinese regime become a world player? In what ways did the Chinese Communist Party flip the rules under the World Trade Organization (WTO) and make free markets less free? In this episode, we sat down with Clyde Prestowitz, president and founder of the Economic Strategy Institute and author of “The World Turned Upside Down: America, China, and the Struggle for Global Leadership.” He gave his take on China’s #DigitalCurrency ambitions, how the Chinese regime rose to global economic power, how the pandemic served as a wakeup call for countries doing business with China, and much more.

#AppleDaily is one of the few independent media outlets in Hong Kong. But they will stop operations by midnight tonight. The chairman of the city’s journalist union is warning, it ”will create a chilling effect” in the city. Northeast China enters #FloodSeason one month earlier than usual. At least in the basin of one major river, it marks the highest rainfall level in 60 years. What are the fundamental differences between Canada and #CommunistChina? The Canadian Prime Minister is breaking down. That’s after the two sides quarrelled at a United Nation meeting.

                        • Many in Scientific Community Fell Into Communist China’s Trap—Laura Harth on Wuhan Lab Leak Theory

Much of Europe and North America has become dependent on China for critical products, from rare earths to pharmaceuticals. Europe’s “green transition” is intimately linked to human rights atrocities in China, says human rights advocate Laura Harth. How could the Chinese regime exploit these strategic dependencies? And if the lab leak theory turns out to be true, what will that mean for Beijing? In this episode, we discuss how the Chinese regime has strangled freedom in Hong Kong, expanded its encroachments and censorship globally, and is working to rewrite the international corpus on human rights. Laura Harth is the Campaign Director for Safeguard Defenders and the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China’s regional liaison for Italy.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping recently required top members of the Party to state loyalty oaths, and is claiming there have been traitors within the ranks of the regime. And in other news, a new study from the University of Southern California and the RAND Corporation found that lockdown policies not only didn’t appear to reduce COVID deaths, but may have even made the situation worse. In this live Q&A with Crossroads host Joshua Philipp we’ll discuss these stories and others, and answer questions from the audience. Also, we have special guest Roman Balmakov of Facts Matter joining us for a special segment on the audit.

                            • How we Prevent the ‘Next Pandemic’; Hard-Learned Lesson from the Lockdowns. Feat. Betsy McCaughey

What happens when the next pandemic comes? With little seemingly being done to hold the China regime to account for its role (in at least) spreading the coronavirus, the possibility of another outbreak isn’t so far-fetched. Former Lt. Gov. NY Betsy McCaughey says reforming the Center for Disease Control (CDC) is at the core of what needs to happen to raise America’s defense against further threats. The CDC ‘wants to spend American tax dollars overseas, rather than ramping up public health capabilities in the United States,’ she adds. The trend towards globalism—putting the ‘global society’ ahead of the interests of Americans—lies at the heart of many poor pandemic responses, Gov. McCaughey says. “When Donald Trump at the very beginning of the virus closed down travel with China, many of the people at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were outraged at such an anti-globalist perspective.”

                              • Discovering China without communist influence; US bans 5 Chinese firms over forced labor

The Biden administration has imposed trade bans on five Chinese firms over concerns of forced labor in Xinjiang. Some of them manufacture silicon, used in solar panel production. China’s space program appears to serve military purposes first and civilian needs second. A U.S. expert says that China could use its space program to cripple the #AmericanEconomy, sending it back toward the 1970s. How long does it take the Delta virus variant to spread from one person to another? A surveillance video shows that it can make the jump in as little as 14 seconds. The Chinese ambassador to the United States is stepping down. But will his successor become another wolf warrior diplomat or a sheep? One westerner’s fascination with #TraditionalChineseCulture took him to China, but the experience didn’t live up to his expectations. It was only after he returned to the United States did he find the true China he had dreamed about—in a most unexpected place. We sit down with Jared Madsen to hear his story.
